In one way or another, cancer has affected everyone. That’s why the Relay for Life is such a meaningful event for Knox County residents year in and year out. “My mom died of lung cancer in 1995,” said Irene Ponce, “and we formed a team in 2004. We set a goal of $1,500 and got $3,000 (in 2004) and have raised at least $3,000 the past four years. We raised almost $6,000 in 2005.”
The 2008 Relay for Life will be Friday at Knox College. The event is free and open to the public.
For his 60th birthday, George Burgland’s family paid the entry fee for him to play in the John Deere Classic Pro-Am and he was able to play alongside former British Open champion Todd Hamilton.

Just last week, Andy Gibbons completed his second year of the Knox Football Camp. The camp took place in the outfield area of the Knox College baseball field. However next year, the camp will move to the Harley Knosher Bowl and the numbers could greatly go up.
Right when he was hired, Mike Reynolds said he wanted to build a developmental program for Galesburg boys basketball. But he needed someone from the Galesburg area to help run this developmental program.

"Lessons of Life" -- Life definitely has some scary moments to offer us. Often these frightful times occur with the “not knowing” stage. We are waiting to hear about a job and don’t know where our next rent payment is coming from; we are taking a step out in faith and going back to school to change our career; we have gone through a divorce and are wondering how we are going to raise kids on our own; we are ready to leave home and go to college, but fear that we won’t be successful; we are waiting for the results of a biopsy or health issue.
For the past 11 years, Roger Lundeen has helped spearhead an event that features close to $30,000 worth of fireworks. It's called the Big Bang Boom. It's a 1-2 punch of fireworks lighting up the sky with music and commentary to go along with it.
Last week, millions of sports fans saw Derrick Rose's dream of becoming a Chicago Bull become a reality. A hometown kid is taken first overall. Rose went on to embrace the Windy City fans by throwing out the first pitch before the Cubs-White Sox game on Friday at U.S. Cellular Field.
